NO CD/ Not the real riffs

I gave it 3 stars because it didn't come with a CD and it was written in its description that it WILL COME with a CD. The only reason a bought a new one was the CD which it didn't come :\\\\\ Also the riffs are super super easy and they don't have the harder part of solos, like in Comfortably numb, there's only tab for the first part...also the tbs through the book mostly are for the vocal melodies and not the actual Pink Floyd guitar riffs!

About the Author
Swami Paramananda was born on 5 February 1884 as Suresh Chandra Guha-Thakurta, the youngest son of a prestigious family, in the village of Banaripara. The village is in the district of�Barisal, which was then part of�East Bengal�in�British India�and is now part of�Bangladesh. His father, Ananda Mohan Guha-Thakurta, was well known as a progressive, a champion for women’s education, a legacy he was to pass along to his sons. His mother, Brahmamoyee Basu, bore eight children before dying of cancer in her early forties, when Suresh was nine years old. Suresh was known for his affectionate nature and cheerfulness. When Suresh was sixteen, his father began to lose his eyesight. As a result, Suresh read devotional texts aloud and one that was particularly compelling was a collection of “Sayings of Sri Ramakrishna,” a revered�saint�who had died fourteen years prior. On his seventeenth birthday, Suresh joined a group of older men from the village in a journey to�Belur Math�to visit the�monastery�and temple founded by Ramakrishna’s disciples. There he met his teacher,�Vivekananda, who was the foremost disciple of Ramakrishna and the first swami to teach in America.

What more can one say about this classic?

This is a cornerstone of not only Indian spirituality and literature, but of HUMAN spirituality and literature. Read it on Kindle, read it in a printed book, buy it or get it from the library, but please do yourself a favor and read it. If you're interested in Buddhism (as I am), you'll find many interested seeds of thought in this work that the Buddha later refined into his own tradition. Just wonderful.

Good as a devotional reading

Good as a devotional reading,The mind described in the Upanishads is the superconscious mind. According to the Vedic Sages the mind in its ordinary state is only another sense organ. This mind is limited, but when it becomes illumined by the light of the Cosmic Intelligence, or the “mind of the mind,” then it is able to apprehend the First Cause or That which stands behind all external activities.

Denise Lazo has practiced as a radiographer and mammographer at several Rhode Island and Pennsylvania hospitals. Not much additional help, especially for the ridiculous price.

Basically a workbook to have you re-label the pictures in the book for practice. No further explanation of material, no additional material, just some review quizzes. Not impressed with the book or workbook. The book is poorly laid out and poorly written. Makes learning the material more difficult than it needs to be.

At least until the men in Yancy’s squad start losing their minds, turning on each other with murderous intent as the music works its deadly power within them. Convinced it’s some kind of new psychological warfare initiative, the squad leader forces the men to push deeper and deeper into the Vietnamese jungle, obsessed with locating the music’s source. What they find, however, isn’t some new technology, but an ancient spirit awoken by the terrible war. Even worse, the music is changing Yancy too, awakening something buried inside of him. Only one thing is certain, nothing is ever going to be the same.

Glad I read this first

At the suggestion of a friend, I read this first before reading the other books in the series, and I'm glad I did. It really helped put some things in perspective. I don't think it's REQUIRED to read this first, but I am glad that I did. Note that this is a somewhat short, but it's still good.

Another well-written story by Mr. Hunter. Although far too brief, this gives a necessary background on how Yancey became who we see today . The story is fast-paced, but with some necessary darkness. After all, along with light one must have dark and not all stories have happy endings. I'm so looking forward to further adventures of Yancey and feel with this added background closer to the character . If you enjoyed the previous books, this is a must read for a better understanding of how Yancy came to be who he is. If you've not read any of the stories yet this is a good starting point for well-written urban fantasy with a cutting edge. Well done Mr. Hunter keep them coming . Take a chance readers on some new urban fantasy you won't be disappointed .

First off what a frigging great original story!! And I've read 'em all, believe me. Loved this in that it helped piece a few things together about Yancy's past/foundation (and the start of his powers) and his relationship with his old-time friend (and also a little of why he's now in the line he's in). I'm not into spoilers or long-winded reviews that dance around as many details as possible (I call them sideways spoilers). It's a great book, great read, and if you're getting into Yancy them you'll definitely like this.

Brilliant, heathbreaking and hopeful - a wonderful read, regardless of your take on healthcare in the U.S.

Gripping and heartbreaking, GIRL IN GLASS is certainly about Tim Armstrong and AOL and the healthcare system in this country, but it's much more about shell-shocked parents struggling with a "catastrophically" premature baby that teeters on the edge of life for months.

Fei recounts a story that no parent would want to share, yet which any parent will find themselves relating to, and the book alternates moments of fear and helplessness with fully earned oases of joy and hope.

I seriously doubt the one star reviewer read the book in his library - or at all - as he posted his review the day the book came out, and his politically-driven review is disappointing not only because he largely misses the point, but also because his reading misses the raw humanity that rises from every page of Fei's memoir. If you finish the book and what stays with you is the insurance stuff, and not the beautiful, agonizing journey that one family has to endure, then I don't think you were reading very closely.

Excellent and practical for anyone that speaks!

I have just taken a new role that requires me to speak more regularly in public, addressing different group sizes. I realized that I need to improve my speaking volume and the pitch, and was very fortunate to find this book. This needs to be read while listening to the accompanying audio CD (which is not available on the Kindle edition - you'll need to contact Chicago Press for that!).
I have used this for over 4 weeks now, and try to regularly practice my breathing and keep reminding myself to anchor my voice, while being more conscious of the tensions in my throat, neck, jaw and overall posture. I am still a long way to go in my training but I do know I speak more confidently with the developing resonance in my voice.
There's a chapter on voice as metaphor of our life - how true it is and I can certainly confirm that mastering my voice better also allows me to understand why I speak and behave in certain ways, so that I can focus my energy to improve those aspects of my life.

Excellent book. Very informative and I have used the CD that it comes with of exercises extensively. I found it was a nice counterpoint to Roger Love's book, which also came with a CD. I've found both useful, but with different focusses. I nearly lost my speaking and singing voice entirely for quite a period of time, and so needed any advice I could get. A friend also borrowed this book and found that it made her much more aware of the impact of the emotional load she was carrying on the tension in her throat. She also became more aware as a pool instructor and a mother of five of when she was using her voice too frequently or at too loud a volume and it did help her. My sister has used the vocal warmups as a teacher on the way to work in the mornings and benefited greatly from it as well.

Just what I need

When my speech/swallow therapist showed me this book, my first thought was, "I already own so many voice books!" Then I looked through the book and she shared lots of info and exercises from the book and the accompanying CD.

Recent brain surgery left me unabe to swallow or speak due to a paralyzed vocal chord and one side of my tongue. The information and exercises give me an understanding of what is going on in my body and how to, along with my belief system, heal. So far, my diction has greatly improved and I really "get" the role of posture in speech.

WOW! What an eye-opener.

Highly recommended with or without T-Racks

If I did not have T-Racks I would still give this book a perfect score. There is great, concise, easily readable and well-organized value here. Assuming the reader's recording is DAW-based, this book is about the best I've seen in general info and instruction in the area, again, even if one doesn't have/use T-Racks.

Perhaps it's not for the easily-insulted, seasoned professional. But it should be great for anyone from "more-than-total-beginner" on up to pro precisely because of the choice of information provided (and omitted) and the layout. I am a former pro musician, with recording and live-sound experience and, even though I could say "I know" a lot of what is presented here, I'll humbly and honestly say that I'm thankful for and benefitted by this book. It is as though someone had taken the best, dog-eared articles from a huge stack of electronic recording magazines and put them into one concise and graspable resource. There may not be 1000 pages of random, overwhelming creativity insights, but if you absorb (or re-absorb) the principles in this book, you will operate from a fundamentally sound base from which creative "color" will either come naturally or could be sought in other tomes.

As to the "with or without T-Racks" comment: the book addresses the current t-racks "deluxe" model in which all components can be used as stand-alone inserts. Theses "components" are in turn software models of classic hardware devices. So the book is really discussing DAW mixing & mastering in the context of classic hardware audio principles. Other than stating he likes and uses T-Racks, the author does not appear to be "selling" the suite and that does not come off as the book's purpose at all (legitimate quality production and reader success does believably seem to be the goal). That said, authorizing this book may be among the best marketing decisions IK Multimedia has made, and I've got no problem with that. Based on this book, I just bought "Music 3.0" and will be looking for other titles by this author.

"Hands-On" approach to T-Racks

This book is great for a beginner/intermediate level user that wants to try out some mastering "in the box". I don't recommend this book to anyone that is not using T-Racks, however. There is not enough generic mastering information to warrant a purchase of this particular book if you do not own T-Racks. I would recommend Bobby's other book on mastering or if you are VERY serious about learning the art and science of mastering audio, I would recommend the book by Bob Katz which is a lot more detailed (sometimes to a fault, "yawn"). This book is a great overall handbook for T-Racks and has some great practical suggestions on how to use the processors to their fullest potential. It is laid out very neatly and has many pictures as well as sample settings for each module. My only complaint is that it is a bit short. I read it in less than two hours and was left wanting much more. The target audience seems to be aimed more towards the beginner and it more than meets any expectations from a novice. The only thing that I could think of that would amp it up would be to include a DVD that contains some real-world examples.

Great for anyone who's new to Mastering in T-Racks 3

This book is a great read if you are new to mastering, and more specifically, if you are new to mastering with T-Racks 3 Standard or Deluxe. It includes a lot of basic information and some helpful tips and tricks. The book also covers a lot of the same ground as the T-Racks 3 Deluxe User's Manual, so if you've already read the manual, you're in for a review.

However, there's a lot of additional information found here, such as default "starting point" settings for each of the T-Racks 3 modules, and extensive coverage of the Metering section, which is one of T-Racks most powerful features. You'll also learn about working with multiple files, various formats, dithering, using the Compare feature, loop-points, fades, and exporting your project. All-in-all, it's a worthwhile read if you're either a beginning or experienced user of T-Racks 3 Deluxe.

In addition to this book, I would also highly recommend "Mastering with T-Racks" instructional DVD-ROM by Michael Costa from Groove3, especially if you're a more hands-on learner.
