This book is filled with great information but is very poorly written. It is filled with grammatical errors, spelling errors, and poorly structured sentences. Our class enjoys poking fun at it and our teacher plans to write the publishing house in reference to their need for a better editing.

The text is not very valuable. It presents the material from a condescending perspective leaving the reader with little to work with. The language is too academic to the point of being incomprehensible. There are plenty of other books which are far more valuable and aimed toward an academic audience.

LTC (Retired) Jimmy L. Pool has had a lifelong interest in military history and started collecting German militaria in the 1970s. He is the co-author of a previous two-volume set on rations of the German soldier.

This book delves deeply into the lesser known, perhaps lesser appreciated common items carried and used by the WW 2 German Soldier. Its lengthy well illustrated color format will be familiar to anyone familiar with the author's previous works concerning German rations. It not only tells the what but the why behind simple items such as soap powder, footwear, razors and blades, combs, toothbrushes, hair care products and much, much more all using color pictures of the actual items belonging to collectors from around the world. One might think there isn't much to say about these simple things but don't be deceived. The US and Britain felt the industries producing these things worth extensively investigating and these rare reports form the basis of much of the research that went into this book. As an extra attraction, interspersed in the text are rare, never before seen period photographs containing many of these items in use in garrison and in the field. Overall, the detail is exquisite and the text is informative yet not overburdened with extreme detail. If you're interested in the details, style and packaging designs of the era you can't go wrong with this book. Standby for Vol. 2!!!

In 1998, Tom Malloy was one of the lead actors in the film Gravesend, produced by Oliver Stone. The film became an indie-cult favorite. When this film failed to make him a household name, Tom decided to learn as many facets of the movie business as he could. Over the course of eight years, he created his own method to ?nance films. Tom first wrote and produced The Attic, a thriller directed by Mary Lambert (director of Pet Sematary and Pet Sematary II), and starring John Savage, Jason Lewis, Elisabeth Moss, and Tom. Tom then wrote and produced The Alphabet Killer, a psychological thriller directed by Rob Schmidt (director of Wrong Turn). The ?lm stars Eliza Dushku, Cary Elwes, Oscar-winner Timothy Hutton, Michael Ironside, and Tom in one of the lead roles. Tom wrote and produced Love N’ Dancing, a dance ?lm/romantic comedy directed by Rob Iscove (director of She’s All That). The ?lm stars Amy Smart and Tom, along with Billy Zane, Betty White, and Rachel Dratch. As a direct result of contacts made through the techniques of Bankroll, Tom recently partnered with the Han Shi group of China to produce a slate of U.S. films over the next three years.

Best Book on Film Fundraising

***** Five Stars out of Five! Best book on film fundraising yet! It really gave me a shot in the arm to raise money for my next feature. It's written from a practitioner, not a theorist perspective, in other words Tom has done it from scratch and writes in a conversational style. Artists sometimes forget the second word in "show business" is business, and Tom demystifies the business of bankrolling features in the indie world. God bless you Tom for selflessly sharing your insights, may He multiply back to you everything you have and give.

THE GOOD, THE BAD, & THE HAIR-RAISING -- Maybe good for inspiration, but don't you dare solely rely on it.

I have over 35-years experience in Hollywood, and I partly agree with Chris Doyle's one-star review on this book--though I'd be a bit less harsh. I'd pay $2 for what I believe would actually come to two pages of useful info. And I know that Chris *did* indeed read the book because I did too and felt much the same way.

But I do admire Malloy for his positive energy--even if he does resort to repeating trite motivational sales tales we've all heard before (like the "x number of no's to get to a yes" bit) and--worse yet--echoing "The Secret".

I certainly found his opinion of entertainment attorneys & how to deal with them to be spot on.

But his opinion of most sellers at the AFM is far more positive than mine, and suggesting that any novice producer go down there is like leading lambs to the largest wolf-pack of idea-thieves on the planet.

Malloy's examples of pitches (and the "hype" vocabulary he utilizes in them) make him sound like a two-bit hustler and are a joke to anyone who knows what real intelligence-based & heart-based investors actually respond to. I was terribly amused by the pathetic rationales Malloy gives for some of the statements he uses in his pitches too.

He doesn't seem to ever point out that a film's sales and the amount of those sales that are actually returned to an investor are two different things, either. Real ROI is much more difficult to calculate than Malloy implies.

In fact, there were times when his advice nearly made my hair stand on end.

If Malloy indeed raised the money for the films he lists, then I assure you he had a lot of help from others in ways he purposely does not mention in this book.

Years ago, the infamous Chase Revel wrote in an editorial in Entrepreneur Magazine that "enthusiasm and positive energy are excellent and necessary to have, but that you can't let them blind you to the realities of the business you're in." He was right. Regardless of how much enthusiasm you have, you must consider sound business research AND THE LAW in your decision-making.

If you're raising movie money, do not rely on Malloy or Dov Simens' books alone--lest you find yourself in serious violation of securities laws.

I would additionally recommend the books by John Cones and Louise Levison at the very least.

But Michael Wiese's publishing of Malloy's tome here (without serious content revisions) now makes me want to carefully examine any book published under his label before I buy it.

It's traditional for authors to get their friends to post gushingly positive reviews for their books when they're first listed here on Amazon. I'm afraid that that's what's going on in here, too.

Raising movie money is NOT easy, not in the least--not in any way, shape or form. Such statements were likely planted in the other reviews just to get you to buy this book. "It's easy," you read. "Wow," you thought! "Sign me up! I'll buy it if it'll indeed tell how easy it is."

The Independent Filmmaker's "The Little Engine that Could"

I thoroughly enjoyed this book on a subject that I initially thought would be pretty slow going. I was very surprised that this excellent reference book was also an entertaining and personal glimpse into the passion and energy of a man completely focused on his career as an actor in films.
This book will entertain you, educate you, inspire you and motivate you to keep your focus and get the "gold" so that you can make your film. Make sure you have your highlighter, pencils, and "Post-it" as you read this book because you'll want to reference it many times as you prepare your plan to produce your dream film.

And even though this book is focused on film financing, I would recommend this book to anyone who has an idea to sell because the cause, the work, the desire and the need is the same.

A different take on teaching emotions

Each page of this book talks about a different emotion and the cut out hearts grow smaller until the end of the book. A little girl describes how she feels with each emotion. On sad days her heart feels heavy like an elephant. On happy days her heart feels shiny and bright like a yellow star.

The illustrations are simple and colorful. The cut out hearts on each page add a fun element.

This story was originally written in French and translated into English. Although the examples are at times a bit abstract ("But other times my heart is cool. I bob along gently like a balloon on a string...This is when my heart is calm.") this is a wonderful way for children to understand emotions. The book is advertized for ages 2-4. I do not believe this young age will understand the full meaning of the examples. I think ages 4-7 would be a better audience. It would also be a great book to use for those on the autism spectrum who would benefit from the descriptive language. I would have liked to have seen a boy as well as a girl narrate the story, but oh well.

I’ve been in love with “In My Heart” since it arrived at my home some months ago. The words and illustrations are equally beautiful. They make feelings accessible. Children — and adults — know what it’s like to be happy, sad, brave angry or shy, but often can’t find the words to express how they are physically feeling inside. “In My Heart” provides the words. Fanciful illustrations and a die-cut heart that extends through each spread make this book irresistible. My daughter already loves the hearts and can spend upward of 10 minutes thumbing through the cardstock-weighted pages. It’s only a matter of time before she begins to understand the accompanying words — I can’t wait!

Beautiful and useful

My 2 year-old daughter loves this book. After we first got it it was her favorite, and she wanted to hear it many times every day. Now, we just read it occasionally. A few minutes ago she was feeling really mad, so I pulled it out and started reading, and she instantly calmed down. Other times without reading it I sometimes ask her, "what feelings are in your heart right now?" and that helps her sort it out better. Feelings can be a little hard for kids to identify and understand, but this expresses them in a new way. The pictures are modern, interesting, and engaging. The heart cut outs kind of add to it. Prior to this we used to read Walter Was Worried fairly often, and that is also a good one (very different from this). I will probably start including this with second or third birthday gifts for my friends' kids. It is really lovely, and it has enhanced our talks about feelings, and my daughter's ability to cope with strong feelings.

Good practice and assessment book for 5th grade common core math

I bought this Grade 5 common core math 4 today book for my wife, at her request, being she's a 5th grade teacher and it was recommended to her highly by colleagues and she will be using this for next year's class.
It has a total of 96 pages and has practice and assessment items in the book.
It appeared, to me, to be laid out well with clear and precise instructions.
Being the hubby, I do what I can to help her out. I don't know how she or all teachers do it. It's a tough as nails job, don't get paid enough and have to purchase most of their own supplies.
Thank you to all the teachers, subs, assistants and home school mom's for all you do. Hats off to all of you out there!
Per my wife, if your a 5th grade teacher, this is a good book to utilize.

Not bad 4th grade

4 questions a day for 4 days with a 5th day assessment test that is one page for 40 weeks. It has questions like: What time is on the clock?, addition to the thousands, which is the quadrilateral, list the factors prime or composite, word problems that must be read carefully for example the use of about for estimate, rounding numbers, count the blocks, write the number in word form or as a number, bar graph, tables, subtraction of large numbers, division, small to large number multiplication, greater or less than, adding subtracting multiplying fractions, decimals to fractions, measuring angles. The book become more difficult as the school year would progress so you would want to use this as a supplement to school lessons or a review. It does not tell you how to do the problems. Answer key is in the back of the book.

Not Strongly Aligned to Common Core. Errors

Carson-Dellosa should review the answers to these math problems. There are errors printed on the answer key pages.
Although textbooks and workbooks are often sprinkled with errors, parents should do their due diligence and check
their child's work. Nice practice just to keep math skills refreshed, but I don't believe this workbook is strongly aligned to common core
standards and the smarter balanced tests that are grade level appropriate.

This could easily have been an outstanding series with plenty to offer, so my only complaint is trying to fit so much of this big idea into such a short book. I'm noticing this has been a consistent problem with graphic novels for me. The level of detail you could get from a regular novel cannot be matched through images, which themselves offer a broader sense of imagery and allow for less descriptive detail. Anyway, back to the book, for what graphic novels typically seem to accomplish in my experience, this one did a good job and it was worth it, if not for the artwork alone.

Andrew MacLean is an outstanding artist and dynamic storyteller. ApocalyptiGirl is a must-read story with one of a kind art. If you enjoy artists who emphasize shape dynamics and utilize exciting color choices then this book is for you. The art alone makes this a great buy, and a price like this is hard to beat. Andrew will also be releasing a Trade Paperback edition of Head Lopper. If you enjoy this art style, check out Head Lopper and see it amped up even further.

Great art, Wonderful story line

Wonderful story. I really enjoy MacLean's Art. It's much different than what you see in main stream comics. The story line is very gripping and enjoyable and even takes an unexpected twist.
