Beautiful Book.

The author tells you that you don't choose Francesco, Francesco chooses you. I believe it's so true... Book one was eye opening, book two helps you be aware of changes are good. With faith and love everything is possible. I would love if this book was translated into English. I would give it to my son and daughter to read. Also my friends. Can't wait for book 3 and 4 to be delivered.

The truth is out there

As Richard Wiseman explains in the introduction, this is an investigation into the psychology behind people's beliefs about the supernatural. For example, why do people believe that dreams can predict the future, that they can communicate with the dead or that tarot cards can predict their destiny? Written in his usual entertaining style, it's highly readable and not at all scholarly. In short, Wiseman believes that there is a scientific explanation for all supernatural phenomena. He exposes many of the tricks (conscious and unconscious) that allow us to suspend our disbelief, using research studies and anecdotes to illustrate his points.

Reading this book is a participatory experience with a number of experiments and party tricks you can conduct on yourself or your friends as you go along. Weblinks are also given to allow you to view video footage of experiments.

This is a less "quirky" read than his last couple of books, but it does offer many interesting tips such as:
- How to fool people that you have psychic abilities
- How to induce an out of body experience
- How to impress your friends by appearing to bend a spoon
- How to significantly increase your chances of dreaming about somebody
- What to do if you feel you're being attacked by a ghost in bed at night
- How cults indoctrinate people and how to avoid being brainwashed.

I read this book on my Kindle and it wasn't optimal in that format. While all photographs are included, their placement doesn't match the text and there is a table included at one point which lost all of its formatting.

A must-have

Richard Wiseman's Paranormality is probably one of the best books on critical thinking available. Connecting the dots between supernatural experiences and classic and contemporary research on perception, memory, and social psychology, Wiseman skillfully unravels the superstitious mind and explains how and why we tend to believe all kinds of weird claims. It is not a complete account of everything paranormal - Wiseman focuses on psychics, hauntings, extra sensory perception, and related. But the demarcation is very much in line with what is in the public eye currently, with psychics swarming the yellow pages as well as prime-time television, along with "documentaries" on hauntings, remote-viewers and such. Wiseman's style of writing is commendable and suits the curious first-timer as well as the devoted skeptic. And the latter won't find another rehash of old stuff, but a fresh and inspiring approach with lots of new input worth considering.

Superb book, detailing how people deceive themselves in a variety of ways into thinking that allegedly "paranormal" phenomena exist, when in fact they're generally just falling prey to subtle mental tricks and ingrained behaviors resulting from evolution. Wiseman cites numerous psychological studies, and also provides techniques for demonstrating how these self deceptive practices generally work in real life. Highly recommended, though the "believer" set won't appreciate having their sacred cows skewered repeatedly.

Of all the Prep Books for AP CALC, this is the BEST (and I bought them all)

My son is currently taking Calculus AB and will be moving into Calculus BC, I purchased about 5 different prep books to help him prepare for the exam (both AB, BC, and Clep). At first, I thought going with the BC book would suffice for questions for the AB part of the exam and for most people, if you are doing both, you can get by with just the BC book. However, since my son's teacher asks questions from actual AP tests on his exams, I could not find enough Free Response AB questions in the BC book, so I bought the AB book also to get more questions. There is a lot of overlap in content in both the books by the same author. However, this is HANDS DOWN the best book from all the different groups in terms of questions, examples, preparation, etc. If you only buy one book, THIS (or the BC version) is the one to get. It comes with a good review of each unit, problems to practice for each unit and shows you the answers worked out for each set of problems. It also has 3 full practice tests with the problems worked out. I really liked that once you worked through them all you could find patterns of the types of problems to expect and how to do them. I feel that this book will prepare my son better than any of the other books we have for AP Calculus. He is also going to go ahead and take the Clep exam and we have a different book for that, the Clep, has a slightly different "flavor" than the AP Calc so if you are considering that test in addition or instead of, I would still suggest this book and the books with practice clep tests. This still helps you better than any clep books in overall review but the clep books will help you prepare for their type questions. The BC book, as I said, repeats content but adds the extra units with sequences and series and the few other topics scattered throughout such as parametric​ equations, etc.

I don't remember what person narrated the story but knowing Louis it was either first or third person. The book was a good Louis L'Amour saga. The edition I received was either marked acceptable or good and it was neither. Obviously had been submerged in water at some point. Truly a mess.

Shamsher Bahadur Singh has 25 years of teaching and research experience, including a postdoctoral fellowship in the U.S.. His area of specialization is in structural engineering with composite structure as a major area. Dr. Singh is the reviewer of many prestigious journals such as the ASCE Journal of Composites for Construction, International Journal of Earth Science and Engineer, ACI Structural Journal, IJE, and the Journal of Korean Society of Civil Engineering. He has been a member of various IIT Delhi committees such as the construction committee, committee for recruitment of project engineers, and committee for recruitment of BITS faculty. Dr. Singh is an editorial board member of the IJEE Journal and the Journal of Civil Engineering and Architecture, published by Lublin University of Technology, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture.

Possibly useful for personal trainers and advanced bodybuilders, others should give it a pass. Doesn't work on Kindle device.

What do you get for a hundred bucks? Basically web bibliography pointing to articles the author has written for sites like testosterone nation.

Should that matter? Well, organizing and presenting that online material in a systematic way in theory has value, the problem is that so much of that material is written in bodybuilder jargon, e.g. " Using a traditional hip hinge like the RDL or the stiff-leg deadlift, work the descent of the movement with increased time under eccentric loading," or "... just think of turning the dumbbell shrug movement into a mosh pit at a Slip Knot concert. Don't be that guy." This certainly *sounds* like useful device, but for $100 I expect an author to put a little more effort into explaining himself, especially as he's pitched the "book" as being useful to people with only modest levels of experience.

This book has basically no illustrations or explanations; just a bunch of links to web articles/videos along with a few terse notes on proper execution that are likely only useful to someone already very familiar with the exercises. In some cases the advice requires the assistance of a personal trainer to execute (e.g. finding out exactly how far you can safely squat based on your personal anatomy with the aid of a goniometer).

Given that the Amazon description suggests this is (a) a book and (b) useful to people with only basic levels of experience, I'd be inclined to give it one star. However I'm giving it an additional star as benefit of the doubt; it seems like something that might be useful to a few people. I suggest that you google "John Rusin" on the site t-nation dot com. If these articles are useful to you individually, paying $100 to have them organized into some semblance of a program is probably a good deal. For most people it's an absurd amount of money to pay to be pointed to a bunch of web articles that probably won't mean much to them.

One final point: the ebook production values are extremely crude. It is in "Print Replica" format, which is basically just a dump of a printout (badly typeset) and DOES NOT WORK on a Kindle device -- not that that really matters since the real content is actually on the web in formats the Kindle can't handle. However the book doesn't work on the web reader either, and is extremely awkward to use on the Amazon Kindle app for Android (the links are at the bottom of the page and so attempting to access them most of the time 8/10 times brings up the page browser UI instead -- very frustrating). Basically it's only convenient to use in Amazon's desktop reader app for Mac or PC. For the price, and given the academic qualifications of the author, I was expecting an superbly produced book, not what seems more like a printout of someone's class notes.

Solid book with no "bs."

It was a good book with all of the fundamentals one needs to get great results in their fitness program based on their goals. A nice chapter on dietary advice helps the novice understand calories in relation to their personal goals as well. Being a personal trainer for over eight years, I was very pleased with this book and would recommend it to my clients.

Still Useful

After over 20 years and on a shelf with dozens of more complete texts on any of the subjects covered by Arbib et al, this little text remains my first choice of reference. Why? Because it concisely covers the key definitions and thorems providing a formal basis for computation that are essential for graduate study.

About the Author

D N Ghosh has traversed the worlds of government, the public and private sectors and academia. He has been secretary to the Government of India, Chairman of India’s largest bank, State Bank of India and chairman of several leading companies in the private sector and professor of Development Finance in the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata. The author of two acclaimed books, Banking Policy in India: an Evaluation and Governance and Accountability, he is at present Chairman of ICRA, a leading credit rating agency of India, the Managing Trustee of Sameeksha Trust that runs the prestigious Economic and Political Weekly and is associated with several companies and organisations as Chairman or Director. His main areas of interest are financial and banking history.
