I'm staring at my kindle like it should hold all the answers

READ THE WARNING!

Unpredictable plot, dysfunctional characters, a psychological thriller that will leave your mind spinning, your heart shattered. A game of who's playing who, it's emotionally charged darkness.
It's been a couple of hours since I finished. I still haven't come to terms with my feelings, I'm staring at my kindle like it should hold all the answers, because the wall didn't. Ninety percent of the books I read are dark, twisted, or at least contain some dark themes. Sometimes I prepare for the worst and hope for the best. I love the unpredictability that comes with dark books, Courtney Lane has become a favorite for pulling out the twists. I never know what she has lurking around the corner, I start to sweat, I start to breathe heavily, my heart thumps in my chest, it's all the feels of a horror movie. You can't stop watching. I grab my blanky and curl my toes in the couch. I may have squealed out loud a couple of times.
Eric Brenton isn't your knight in shining armor. He's that good looking, slightly terrifying guy with sociopathic urges. He's the book anti-boyfriend for us dark readers, he may have scared me as much as he turned me on. You have to remember this series is far from romance, it's sick, it's twisted. And complicated in all the wrong ways. I was on the verge of a breakdown with every new revelation. I didn't know if I wanted to hug, kill, or marry Eric. I didn't know if I wanted to protect, slap, or coddle Nicki. I could've been on the verge of insanity myself. This book turned me upside down, inside out. Damaged doesn't compare to these two. I couldn't help but want them to end with that dreaded HEA. Knowing they would ruin each other till the end. It was devastatingly beautiful. Tragically twisted.
This story will keep you on your toes. Make you question your stability. The intricate details were carefully thought out, wickedly written to leave you breathless. I had to read this book in small doses. I felt a certain doom looming. I knew the big bang was to come, but nothing prepared me. I'm still flipping the pages. The book is over, I'm still flipping the pages. I keep flipping the pages to point that I want to throw my kindle at the wall. This can't be the end, as I try to flip the page one more time. I have a lump in my throat, a lost feeling, emotions I can't fathom.

Courtney Lane managed to shred my Dark heart. I'll be in the corner rocking back and forth.

The BEST ending to one of the most phenomenal series ever written!

I don't think I could have predicted a tenth of the events in this series finale even with a gypsy tarot card reader!

TDD picks up where book 2 ended, Nikki and Eric's breakup. Those two are so miserable without each other. They're destructive together and even more so apart. Eric literally goes off the deep end. He's back on a rampage....torture and murder. Nikki is still searching for Ethan, the sensitive loving guy who existed before he became cold and dark Eric. After all, they both have something to live for now. Nikki is willing to keep things under wraps until Eric agrees to counseling. As Eric continues his self- destructive behavior, Nikki continues to fight her own demons/mental illness, obsession with Eric, and Eric himself.

Of the three books in the series, TDD is the most revealing, the most dramatic. This story will exploit every emotion you possess. This story will tie you up in knots and painfully wring every tear you possess. Big ugly tears! This story especially the end will gut you and will force you to question whether destiny and soul mates truly exist. You will question if the ultimate sacrifice is worth the debilitating pain that will most certainly follow if such a sacrifice truly exists. Is it acceptable for one part of the soul to make a decision of such a magnitude that would surely cripple the entire soul for the greater good?

Readers, I can only say prepare yourself to question every illusion you've ever encountered , read about, or witnessed in the finicky subject of love and obsession. This series displays one of the most emotionally graphic displays of love, obsession, and physical interdependence I've ever read. This three book series is beautifully dark, beautifully written and is one of my favorite . Read this series. You WILL NOT regret one single moment you spend reading this series.

When Courtney said readers may grab their pitchforks after ready The Darkest Descension I was freaking scared to read it. Then I read the warning and was like damn if just the warning was intense then I knew the story was going to knock me off my feet, and it did. After finishing I had to sit and think about what I just read because I was overcome with emotions .I have no pitchforks in my hands because I think Courtney ended Eric & Nikki's story the way it was suppose to end. Bravo Courtney for staying true to the characters. Eric and Nikki will always hold a special place in my heart.

After reading the six books in John Mefford's "Booker" series independently, I only continue to be truly delighted by his books and writing. You can go back to each one of the books and verify my reviews where I was a ‘VERIFIED PURCHASER’ throughout. My reviews have consistently been very positive. I agree with all five-star reviews and I will not be giving you any spoilers here!!!

The three books in this set are packed with quality writing, character development, and action, which will PULL YOU IN & ENGAGE you. As you read you will learn about the characters so much you will feel you know them personally, and care for them almost like good friends. At times one bad things happen to them you will feel as if it happened to you or someone you know.

I would just like to make a specific comment about the book 'No M�s' and I hope that it will illustrate how I have really enjoyed these books. I was born in Guatemala and speak Spanish fluently. All through 'No M�s' Mr. Mefford uses Spanish and I can't avoid thinking he must be bilingual! Details like using two languages fluently show not only talent, but also careful preparation.

Warning: You will not just read this thriller, you will LIVE IT!

Mr. Mefford, he soon became one of my favorite authors.
Having enjoyed all of his novels to date, anything new
I grab it. Without a doubt I know I will be a satisfied
reader. From this selection it will be hard to put down.

Outstanding read - page turners

The "pace" classification listings are not accurate enough in my opinion - it should allow for "blazing," "supersonic." or some other classification than just "fast." The Booker series books cannot be put down. Mefford does an outstanding job of presenting the characters as "real" people placed in actual, but personally trying, situations with the help needed to rectify their situations. Nearly IMPOSSIBLE to put down once the book is begun - don't even try. Mefford - Keep up the good work!!!

The less violent side of an abusive relationship, and possible spoiler alert.

I'm basically going to review the series on this last one, final book, finishing review. I first read Her First Clit Ring a while ago, and wondered what was going to happen to the strange relationship that John and Jenny have. Jenny of course is a fairly likable character, until you read more. As she loses her self respect and her voice we lose respect for her. Enter Billy, John's good friend, who seems to dislike Jenny, not good enough for John, Billy supposedly says at some point. Not good enough why? She gives him everything he wants, all john has to do is whisper I love you lies in her ear and she capitulates. Maybe Billy feels the way I do, Jenny doesn't seem to respect herself, so why treat her as if she's human? She's a toy, a non-human, an unworthy waste of his friend's time and effort (so what if she has a clit ring?)
This is classified as erotic romance, but there's nothing ROMANTIC about it.
In book three, Desensitization, Billy suggests a bigger show, why share the glory of Jenny's clit ring with only one? So in a way to ease Jenny into the wholly exibitionist lifestyle, desensitize her. Put her on display while performing a crude sexual act on her person. Jenny seems to enjoy it until the end, probably both dehydrated and overwhelmed by her thoughts and circumstances she passes out.
Thin Final Party: is the last straw, the one that breaks the camel's back so to speak. Jenny wakes to the realization that maybe her relationship with John isn't all it's cracked up to be. He only tells her he loves her when he wants something, he wants to put on a party for friends to show off her clit ring, a little I love you lie and Jenny hops on board. Did she have no idea that it would end in a gang rape? Did she have no idea that that was John's intention? She says no, she wakes enough to say no, but I wonder, how would things have turned out between her and John had she said "no!" A little more and under the right circumstances? Would John have dumped her because she wouldn't easily bend to his will? Would Billy like her better? But then if she had, there would be no series. Maybe that's what the author should have done, but then I'd probably be wondering what would've happened if she'd said yes? I guess I'll never be satisfied. Which is probably why I tend to stick with romance, I know I'll get my happy for now ending at least.

This is a good book and has a lot of promise. I will be reading the next one. The only problem I have with books that are written in a series is that it is usually so long between books that I tend to forget what is going on and have to go back and read the end of the last book to catch back up.

A Bit Awkward, but Overall Good

Zombie Island is about what happens after a zombie virus infects the world and what one girl goes through to survive it. It is told in a first person point of view that was very awkward at first. As the story goes on it gets much more comfortable and easy to follow. There were some spelling and grammatical issues, but it was still a good story overall.

Samantha, or Sam as she goes by, is a girl who has been surviving on her own for 6 months after the zombie virus hits. She is careful when she goes to look for supplies and even has a garden going on the roof of her building. On a trip into town for supplies she is attacked by the Zombie Warriors, a group of men that are basically horrible individuals. She is then rescued by a team of brothers, Reese and Ryder. They pick up another girl, Tobe along the way out of town and away from the Warriors. Sam keeps it together and it's not until later that she basically breaks down. She lets her typical girl insecurities take control of her. Also, she is constantly flipping back and forth between the two brothers and which one she likes better.

Ryder and Reese are some tough guys. Ryder is more of the dick and more closed off. Reese is the nice one who is trying to help others regardless. They basically keep the group alive for most of the story. Tobe was definitely damaged, but it was understandable why she had issues.

The zombies were true to lore. They were gruesome and mindless. They wrecked havoc on the group and definitely killed quite a few people. It was vivid and realistic which is refreshing when most "monsters" get romanticized. The ending was kind of corny, but tied up loose ends while leaving it open for interpretation on what happens next.

Could've been worse

The story is alright, but the characters were cookie-cutters and they needed a lot more depth to them. There were some attempts to try and flesh out the characters, but overall the attempts fell a little short because they just perpetuated the "cookie-cutter" personalities even more.
As much as I wanted to enjoy the zombie story, it just didn't have enough originality to make it an interesting read. A lot of the plot ideas are just re-hashed scenes from zombie flicks and the story borders on cliche. Some scenes just don't make any logical sense and overall the plotting needed a lot of work. I would have given the story a star or two more if there was more originality in the plot and characters.
The writing wasn't bad, I liked the author's voice and the story had a nice flow to it, but again, I felt there was a lack of creative control in the storytelling as well as the characters and plot.
If you want a run-of-the-mill zombie story, then sure, give this a go.
But if you're looking for something more on the original side, maybe elsewhere.

Seven-year-old Munnu is growing up in Indian-administered Kashmir. Life revolves around his family: Mama, Papa, sister Shahnaz, brothers Adil and Akhtar and, his favourite, older brother Bilal. It also revolves around Munnu’s two favourite things – sugar and drawing.

But Munnu’s is a childhood experienced against the backdrop of conflict. Bilal’s classmates are crossing over into the Pakistan-administered portion of Kashmir to be trained to resist the ‘occupation’; Papa and Bilal are regularly taken by the military to identification parades where informers will point out ‘terrorists’; Munnu’s school is closed; close neighbours are killed and the homes of Kashmiri Hindu families lie abandoned, as once close, mixed communities have ruptured under the pressure of Kashmir’s divisions.

Munnu is an amazingly personal insight into everyday life in Kashmir. Closely based on Malik Sajad’s own childhood and experiences, it is a beautiful, evocatively drawn graphic novel that questions every aspect of the Kashmir situation – the faults and responsibilities of every side, the history of the region, the role of Britain and the West, the possibilities for the future. It opens up the story of this contested and conflicted land, while also giving a brilliantly close, funny and warm-hearted portrait of a boy’s childhood and coming-of-age.

Malik Sajad was born in 1987, in Srinagar, Kashmir. His illustrations and stories have appeared in various local and international publications. He studied Visual Art at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Refreshing perspective on Kashmir

Beautifully told story of Kashmir and the price that citizens pay for a conflict that they have no control of...I'd recommend this book to everybody who is even remotely interested in knowing about Kashmir... This is a fresh perspective and you can't help rooting for Munnu who is as real as the author himself.

A fresh read: Incredibly written and drawn

This is a beautifully illustrated book, and very well written. I don't usually read comics or anything like that, but this book is much more than a "comic book". Great read, well crafted, illustrated, and written.
