Sessions focused on the aspects of epitaxial and bulk growth of GaN and its alloys, on optical properties and structural and electrical characterisation, quantum phenomena and light-emitting devices such as LEDs and laser diodes.

FINALLY, IT'S HERE AND IT'S FANTASTIC

I waited forever and month for this book. It was well worth the wait. I love this book so damn much. Nick is my favorite. Thayne had a lot of groveling to do after how he rejected Nick in the first book. We learn more about the two and how they first met and why Thayne rejected him . The two of them tried every possible way to forget about each other. They diddled every person they could in order to banish the thought of each other. For Nick , he tried to forget about Thayne because it ripped him apart when Thayne attacked and rejected him. For Thayne, he never wanted a mate because he felt it made you weak and he made a pact to never accept his mate. He made a mistake in moment of lust and it resulted in something he couldn't back and erase or change. So he comes home and Nick is forced to help the man who doesn't want him. The two of them struggle from the get go. Jealousy, anger, resentment, violence, and indifference . Every thing you don't want to happen in beginning of meeting your mate and it happens to them. They struggle with their emotions and dealing with a rather prominent threat. The only way to rid themselves of this threat is for each of them to accept their bond but it's not so easy. They push and pull each other in every direction but the one they need to follow.

I loved this story. I loved every moment. Every word. JR Loveless is amazing. I am so excited to know that the series continues and i know there will be a wait. I can take it. If we waited this long for this story and it turned out brilliant, i don't mind waiting for the other (s).

Very enjoyable and much improved from the first in this series, "Chasing Seth".

Obviously more experience and better editing here.

I really felt for Nick and what he went through by being denied by Thayne. The suffering was strong and he kept getting slammed with loss after loss.

Thayne was a selfish prick and needed a good ass kicking. Over and over again he proved what an ass he was and I really wanted someone to beat the snot out of him!

Both Nick and Thayne are strong men who could be Alphas and we see that often as Nick protects himself from further damage and Thayne continually denied forming any relationship with Nick.

While the storyline did drag at times and I felt more than a little annoyed with Thayne and Nick's friend Ryan I did enjoy the book and at this point am looking forward to the next book in the series. I just hope it doesn't take as long as this one did.

It has been a while since I read book one in the Fated Mates series from JR Loveless, Chasing Seth. While it isn’t required to enjoy Forgiving Thayne, I am a backstory girl and wanted to remind myself of everything that happened in book one before starting book two, so I read both of them. I am not going to review Chasing Seth here because I did a very quick read, but I do recommend that if you want a rich reading experience, you read both books back to back.

Forgiving Thayne focuses on the relationship between Seth’s best friend Nick, and Kasey’s brother Thayne. They are mates. If you read Chasing Seth, you know there is a bit of animosity between them, however. Forgiving Thayne starts off by filling in some of those gaps. Then it takes you on a heart-wrenching emotional ride. Thayne and Nick get their happily every after, this is a romance after all, but they work for it… hard.

Thayne lives his life as a drifter, mired in guilt and feelings of inadequacy. Add to that a deep-seated fear of needing someone and tying himself and his emotional well-being to another person/shifter, and you have one messed up dude with serious commitment issues. Enter his fated mate… and watch the roller coaster begin.

That isn’t to say this book was perfect. Few are. I had some issues with the backstory. I may just need to take a closer look at Chasing Seth, but the timeline seemed a bit incongruous to me. I don’t know how Nick was a constantly traveling work-a-holic with a wolf business partner while also nursing Seth back to health and keeping Seth from knowing about his own pack. Also, the story of the turning of Taggart in Thayne did not match with the same story in Seth. That may be explained away because of who was telling the story in each, however. One answer from Chasing Seth I would have liked to have is why Thayne is “worse than [Kasey] about white people and the Created,” but I don’t know how relevant that would have been to the story as it was told.

I enjoyed Forgiving Thayne. Loveless presented Thayne’s fears without making Thayne seem weak because of them. She let us know just how much Thayne’s rejection broke Nick. She was also able to give us two minor characters that need their own HEAs without making them seemed forced for the sake of future stories. I will be waiting for Cole and Ryan’s stories.

This book is an excellent HTML 5 resource and reference manual. I recommend this book for Web Designers, Web Developers and especially back end developers who want to catch up with all new changes that html 5 brings to Web development. This book was extremely interesting and the code examples were accurate.

This book provides very interesting history of the Web and future insight. This book explains Shims and Polyfills and provides many useful references for their downloads and use. Chapter 3 is an excellent reference manual for HTML 5 tags providing examples and browser compatibilities. Video and Audio tags and how to incorporate into your web design is also covered. Four chapters were devoted to Canvas providing many examples and thorough explanations. The author explains Geolocation simple terms.
The examples were accurate, easy to understand and successfully tested. Web Storage - again the author does a great job explaining Session Storage, Local Storage, File System API and Application Cache. He also reviews IndexedDB and suggests polyfills to support older Browsers. IndexedDB examples are a bit more javascript complex, but they are accurate and are great learning tool. The last few chapters were more high level covering Messaging, Web Workers, WebSockets and Beyond HTML 5.

I have been a web and back-end developer since 1997 and I definitely recommend this book.

Clear and beautifully done

HTML5 Unleashed is filled with beautiful, full color pages. Figures and code appear just as they do in browsers and quality code editors. That is a really nice bonus that makes long code samples (and we all love long code samples!) easier to read and gives us an easy way to visually confirm that what that code is supposed to do is being done in our browser when we try it out. Seriously, there is color on every page. I like it.

The book starts with a nice, easy introduction that gives us some historic and technical context as to why HTML5 was created and what it is designed to do. For those of us who have been making webpages since the early GeoCities era, it is a nice refresher that makes for a very quick read and provides an accurate context for the newcomer.

Chapter 2 is another quick introduction chapter that presents the important concepts for HTML5 from a high-level. This is actually important as it clarifies the "why are these things being presented" well before you dig in to the meat of the book. Don't skip it, it's short and worth reading.

The rest of the book, chapters 3-13, cover what I consider the main reason for buying the book. In here are the details we all want. While a quick Google search will give you most of this information, maybe all of it, it will not give it to you in such a well-planned order that builds upon itself.

Specifically, topics include everything from the basics like Doctypes and semantic tags to forms. Then, we move into deeper topics like rich media. A set of four chapters is dedicated to covering HTML5 canvas, which is the flashiest and most immediately-gratifying part of the new specification as it "natively enables interactive movies, games, charts, diagrams, and tons of other forms of dynamic visual content." The canvas section includes topics like when and when not to use canvas over other options, working in 2D and even in 3D, making canvas interactive and stateful, performance tips, and even a discussion of its expected future.

The last section of the book takes a 5 chapter romp into HTML5's JavaScript APIs. There was a time when JavaScript was optional for the web, but if you want to make anything relevant today, you must know how to use at least some set of JavaScript functions. Here, the book covers everything from Geolocation to storage options to messaging and web workers. It goes even deeper into network communication using WebSockets and XMLHttpRequest Level 2. Finally, it covers microdata and related small things and gives you a heads up toward topics you may want to explore beyond HTML5.

This book does not cover presentation, such as is done using CSS. This is the content side of the equation, and honestly it is the part I enjoy most. However, it will not help you learn everything you will need to know about web programming and site creation. It will, however give you the useful tools you need to upgrade your skills to today, if you are an HTML4 or XHTML proficient, and it will help the novice gain a solid foundation and understanding of what makes a site work, which I think is important before you start to work on making it beautiful.

Anyone interested in HTML5 should really take a look at this. Well written guide for anyone writing web pages... excellent tutorials and practical references. I really love how each chapter is written in completion so that you can jump around reading which chapter you want to dive into or read it cover to cover.

I wanted to like this but I was disappointed

I really question the other reviews. I wanted to like this but I was disappointed. The questions overall were fine but there were many mistakes and whoever proofed it did a poor job. The worst part was the rationale. They told you the correct answer but often did not tell you anything about why the others where incorrect. I understand the price is a deal but you get what you pay for.
If the publisher reads this, here are a few thought. I believe it was question 88 where the answer given and the rationale were not matching. In the answers, half the time the question will tell you it is a select all but then it often would not. Lastly, I would have to look back but somewhere around question 20 there is a duplicate question or at least very similar talking and what gives the right to delegate duties.

Handy reference.

The Sky atlas companion goes along perfectly with the Sky Atlas itself. Everyone of those obscure deep sky objects, like those open clusters not in the NGC, have little entries. If you have the Sky Atlas 2000 already, this book is a great supplement.

essential, minimal key to sky atlas 2000

other reviewers have drilled down on details of this book's contents, so i'll limit myself to a few dissents. the book is essentially an alphabetical directory of all the marked deep sky objects in the sky atlas 2000, about a dozen items listed on each page. given for each item is its type (galaxy, open cluster, planetary nebula, globular cluster, etc.), constellation, precise celestial coordinates, angular size, visual magnitude and the sky atlas 2000 chart(s) where it is found, followed by a brief description that includes for example its physical size, number of stars, distance in light years, and (for galaxies) the hubble type.

this book is designed to be used directly alongside the sky atlas; it's not a stand alone reference. one reviewer complained about the cross referencing system: this is based on the sky atlas 2000 labeling with an implicit preference ordering (explained in the introduction, page ix). thus, the same object is labeled NGC3587, M97, The Owl Nebula on chart 2 of the sky atlas, but you must look under "owl nebula" to find its entry in the companion -- proper names are given precedence over catalog numbers and, among catalogs, the messier number takes precedence over the NGC number. (caldwell numbers are not used in the sky atlas but are cross referenced to their NGC or other number in the companion.) the same reviewer complained that there was no named star list but this is already given in the sky atlas index, along with the messier list and a list of constellations. and while the book is not spiral bound and does not lie flat for pages near the front or back covers, spiral bindings often chafe, crimp or tear pages if you try to turn pages too quickly, which isn't very friendly in a lookup reference.

for me, the big lapse in this book is its failure to elucidate the catalogs referred to. what exactly does NGC, or C, or B, or Pal, or IC, J, E, vdB, UGC, SL, SH, Ru or PK refer to? who compiled the lists, and when, and why, and what objects do they contain, and how many? just "NGC" without a number would serve as the perfect place to insert a brief description of this huge list and how it was compiled from 18th and 19th century observations, and "IC" could explain why this supplemental catalog was necessary. the catalogs are not even identified in the bibliography: instead, bare denotations ("B is for Barnard") are buried in the text without further comment.

Star Hopping or Page Hopping?

I received my sky atlas 2000 second edition companion book (I should receive the atlas this week). It is pretty good but right off the bat I have a complaint. In the main section of the book they only list the details of an object by its common name. This is a pain. For example, lets say that you are looking up M57. So you turn to all of the M's and when you get to M57 it say "Please see Ring Nebula" so then you have to flip to the R's and find Ring Nebula. Now if you also want to look up M58 you now have to go back to the M's (what a pain). I guess I will have to go through the book and write in at least the chart number of each object. I wish they would have at least done that. Their note could have said something like. "Chart 8, see Ring Nebula for additional information" Besides that the book is pretty good and they have different ways of looking up things. They even have a section that has all of the DSO's per map.

Now has far as each object that is listed goes the book lacks detail. The only thing provided is the bare minimum. So if you want additional information I guess you will have to go to the web. A small picture of each object even if it were black and white would have been nice.

Another thing missing although it might have made the book to big is a listing of bright stars and double stars. They recommend another two volume book or a CD ROM for that info. Having the double stars listed would have given the user a whole new set of night targets. And having the bright stars listed would have been nice even if they only gave the RA and DEC. If the RA and DEC's were listed the user could use this information as jumping off points when trying to find the DSO's.

It looks like I might have to pick up another set of books to help me with my jumping off points. But I will wait until I receive my atlas before deciding.

The book does what it is supposed to do and that is tell you what chart each object is located on and for that it does pretty darn good. I just wish they would have gone the extra mile and made the book a little more useful.

A little more information about the SA 2000 Companion:

The book says it contains descriptions and data for all 2,700 Star Clusters, Nebulae, and Galaxies shown in the Sky Atlas 2000.0 2nd edition.

The main section of the book, pages 1-227 is a complete listing of all the DSO's in alphabetical order. Quoting from the book "here is where you turn if you already have an object in mind and want to know three things:

1. Whether or not it is shown in the atlas 2. If so what char or charts it appears on 3. It celestial coordinates, size, brightness, and a description of its physical characteristics and appearance in a backyard telescope.

Next, the chart key on pages 228-229 is a miniature, simplified version of that found at the end of the atlas itself - a useful reminder of the chart layout.

Finally, the appendix on pages 231-281 alphabetically list all DSO's objects again, this time by chart number. Each of the atlas's large charts 1-26 is dealt with in turn, followed by each of the close-up charts of selected regions (A1 - A5, B1 & B2). This section of the book can be of help when you want to explor a particular reigon of the sky. Let's say you are already viewing the galaxy M33, which appears on Chart 4 of the atlas. You can turn to page 237 for a compact "hit list" of other object that, because they are alos on Chart 4, are similarly placed for viewing at the same time of the night or season of the year.. The appendix includes only the bare essentials: Object name, type, celestial coordinates, apparent magnitude, and constellation."

I like the Alphabetical list a lot. It makes it quick and easy to find objects. And because it's alphabetical all of the M's (for the most part, more on this in a minute), NGC's, IC's or other lists are all together. This prevents the need for multiple lists. Now the bad part of the book is that they have broken out some objects out of a common list because of a common name. Here are some examples of what I mean. Right off the bat when you get to M1 there is a note that says - See Crab Nebula; So you have to turn back in the book to the C's to find Crab Nebula it's a pain. M1 is on page 47 but Crab Nebula is on page 18. So I wrote in my book under M1 that information. If they would have simply said under M1 See Crab Nebula, Page 18, Chart 5 that would have been better. If they would have said "Crab Nebula, SNR Tau 05h 34.5m +22� 01' 6x4 Chart 5 mag. 8.4" it would have been perfect.

So going down the M list in the book these are a few of the ones you either have to flip forward or backwards in the book for with nothing more than a description that says "See so and so". M8 See Lagoon Nebula, M16 See Eagle Nebula (I wrote in page 25 charts 15 & 16), M17 See Omega Nebula, M20 See Trifid Nebula (I wrote in Page 223, Chart 22). While M20 is listed on page 49. I think you can see my frustration... With a little more effort they could have made the book a whole lot better.

NGC's

First let me start by saying every NGC is not listed. In fact the first one is NGC 14 then it jumps to 16, then to 23 and 24, then to 40, then to 45, then to 50, then to 55. The last NGC entry is 7822. The same nonsensical logic is applied here. For example NGC 7092 on page 200 say See M39 which is on (hang on let me look it up) page 51, chart 9.

If these flaws were corrected and a better description written about the object the book would be nearly perfect for what it is designed to do.
