Having a spare workbook was a life saver. If your child uses this at school, buy a spare before you need it.

One of our kids was issued this workbook at school so of course I had to buy a duplicate the minute I got my hands on the ISBN. We like having back-up books at home in case their school issued textbooks get lost or stolen. Call me over-prepared, but no sooner had I received this workbook then his school issued workbook vanished for a second time. He was able to use the one I bought, do his homework and turn it in without missing a beat. His original workbook was later found at school, but in the meantime we were able to make sure he didn't miss assignments by having our own copy. The Holt McDougal website was out of these workbooks which made my heart sink. I am eternally grateful to the seller for having this item. You saved his English grade! Thank you so much!!

About the Author
Irene E. Schoenberg has taught ESL for more than two decades at Hunter College's International English Language Institute and at Columbia University's American Language Program. She has trained ESL and EFL teachers at Columbia University's Teachers College and at the New School University. She has given workshops and academic presentations at conferences, English language schools, and universities in Brazil, Chile, Dubai, El Salvador, Guatemala, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Taiwan, Thailand, and throughout the United States.

Ms. Schoenberg is the author of "Talk about Trivia"; "Talk about Values"; "Speaking of Values 1"; "Conversation and Listening;" "Topics from A to Z "Books 1 and 2; and the basic level of "Focus on Grammar," Second Edition. She is the co-author with Jay Maurer of the "True Stories "series and the introductory level of "Focus on Grammar," Third Edition.

Ms. Schoenberg holds a master's degree in TESOL from Columbia University.

About the Author

Robert S. Erikson is Professor of Political Science at Columbia University. He has written widely on American politics and is the coauthor of the following books: Statehouse Democracy (1994); The Macro Polity (2002); and The Timeline of Presidential Elections (2012). He has written articles on US politics for major political science journals including the American Political Science Review, the American Journal of Political Science, the Journal of Politics, and Public Opinion Quarterly among others. He is the past editor of the American Journal of Political Science and of Political Analysis.

Kent L. Tedin is the Kenneth Lay Professor of Political Science at the University of Houston. He served as department chair from 1984 to 2002. He has written extensively on political socialization, notably the influence of families and peers on the filial generation. He has also written a number articles on schools and public opinion, including how charter schools affect the social capital of parents, as well as how race and academic quality attributed to character school affect parent choice. Recently he has written on the dffect on public opinion of president�€™s �€œgoing public.�€ He has published articles in every major political science journal including the American Political Science Review, the American Journal of Political Science, the Journal of Politics, the Public Opinion Quarterly and others.

A gentle and respectful autobiography by a distinguished British actor

Like so many people, I have enjoyed on many levels the long-running television series in which Poirot provides the most in-depth and thoughtful interpretation of Agatha Christie's detective, so I was fascinated to read his personal take on the experience. Having recently watched Suchet in a couple of documentaries, I have been won over by the man's gentle nature and self-effacing charm, so I immensely enjoyed this autobiography which will also serve as a useful historical record of the making of the programmes.

The book reveals him to be very like Poirot in many ways, including his modest and polite manner allied with extreme competence. I must admit I didn't realise how many other highly-acclaimed parts he had played in the theatre, and I admire him even more now for having juggled such a demanding and long-running series with so many other roles.

I'm now very tempted to invest in a complete set of the Poirot DVDs and watch them in the order that they were made, to appreciate the commentary that this book provides...

Great story behind the making of the PBS series and the Poirot character

David Suchet's story reads like a biography of a close friend. He describes how he got the role of Poirot and how he developed the character from Agatha Christie's books over the 25 years and 13 seasons the PBS mystery show aired. Especially poignant is the story of filming Curtain, which ends with Poirot's death, as well as the the final episode of Dead Man's Folly filmed on location at Greenwood, Agatha Christie's summer home in Devon, England. Dame Agatha and David Suchet made the character of Hercule Poirot come to life. Fans will truly enjoy this final story of the merging of a great story teller, fantastic actor, and memorable character.

A "Must Have" for Poirot fans

This is a fantastic book and like the Poirot series is enjoyable from beginning to end. I intend to refer to it often as I continue to view my treasured DVDs. I have all of the David Suchet's Poirot series, except #13 that I have ordered and am waiting for it to be released.
I had read some if Agatha Christie's books and saw one or two of the Poirot movies but did not become such an avid fan until Mr. Suchet added such charm to Poirot's character. Now I shall never say "Good Bye" to my dear Belgian friend. When I leave for work with a slightly mismatched pair of gloves, I hear Poirot's voice "One must never let one's self go Hastings" and I go back inside the house for the matching glove. Hopefully, Mr. Suchet has added a little of Poirot in most of us.
My first time eating a mango was after Poirot's demonstration and now I have the directions and delightful story on page 117.
ITV people complain of expense to make the Poirot series - Please keep in mind the money brought it. I have purchased so many things connected with Poirot since the series began. The Christopher Gunning Cds, books, tote bags, Poirot and Agatha Christie charm bracelets, "Death on the Orient Express" earrings to name a few. I dislike reality TV and wouldn't own a TV if it wasn't for quality programs such as these. I hope the brilliant screenwriters, producers and directors mentioned in this book will bring Poirot back to life and continue with Miss Marple and other Agatha Christie stories.

The wide variety of topics covered here will appeal both to readers interested in Charpentier's music and to those with a broader interest in the music and culture of the French Baroque, including aspects of patronage, church and theatre. Far from treating his output in isolation, this book places it in the wider context alongside such composers as Lully, Lalande, Marais, François Couperin and Rameau; it also views the composer in relation to his Italian training. In the process, the under-examined question of influence - who influenced Charpentier? whom did he influence? - repeatedly comes to the fore. The book's Foreword was written by H. Wiley Hitchcock shortly before he died. Hitchcock's own part in raising the profile of Charpentier and his music to the level of recognition which it now enjoys cannot be emphasized enough.
