One of the best series I have ever read.

I just finished reading Blood Infernal, the third and final volume of Jim's and Rebecca's The Order of Sanguines series. The quest to find Lucifer and the 'Angelchild' has brought our four characters to the ultimate battle between good and evil.
I have been seeing posts of so many people who 'steam-rolled' their way through this book in a day. I couldn't. I'm too reluctant to say goodbye. I have been on the most exhilarating, exhausting, frightening and satisfying roller coaster of a ride through this trilogy of books. I have laughed, cried, screamed and covered my head with my sheets in fright while walking alongside these characters. The closer I got to the end of this third volume, the slower I would read. I couldn't let go. I tried to limit my reading to the evenings after I retired, but found myself stealing precious work-allotted minutes during the day. Dr. Erin Granger, Sergeant Jordan Stone, Father Rhun Korza and Countess Elisabeta Bathory have walked out of my life headed to new, unknown encounters where I can't follow.
In the first volume, Blood Gospel, we are introduced to Dr. Granger, Sergeant Stone and Father Korza who are thrown together investigating the discovery of ancient ruins uncovered after an earthquake at Masada, Israel. There, in a hidden tomb, they learn about a book written in Christ's blood by His own hand - The Blood Gospel. Their quest is to find this book.
In the second volume, Innocent Blood, we are thrust back into the dark world of the Sanguines, an immortal group founded on the blood of Christ. Subsequently, they must find and protect a young boy who is believed to be an angel given flesh. Their search takes them to all corners of the earth where they wind up locked in a battle at the gates of Hell.
This has been the most gut wrenching goodbye (to four people who I have come to consider as close friends) I have ever had to experience. Jim and Rebecca set out writing this series hoping to pull us into a world of the unknown, residing in their imagination, where we had never been. Wow, did they ever succeed! I don't want to leave. Kudos, you fantastical, Wizards of Words. Even though I read as slow as I dared, it still came to an end. I envy Jim's and Rebecca's ability to follow this group as they cross the threshold in that hidden Sanctuary far beneath St. Peter's Basilica. But, you never know. With a little hope and a whole lot of luck, one day, we may turn the corner in some dark, back alley on our literary journeys to stumble upon four old friends who have been just as anxious to visit with us again, as we have been with them. Thank you, Rebecca. Thank you, Jim. Please, continue to wield your mighty pens to conjure up and write about more magical destinations and characters for us to discover and fall in love with all over again.

An exciting end to a strong series

Rollins and Cantrell wind up The Order of the Sanguines series with a no holds barred showdown between good and evil that will either see Lucifer rising up and ruling the world with his demon horde or the Knights of Christ prevailing. Archaeologist Dr. Erin Granger continues struggling to decipher the words of prophecy contained within the Blood Gospel, a sacred book written in Christ’s blood. Aiding her is army sergeant Jordan Stone, a Warrior of God who is very much in love with Erin and one of the Knights of Christ, Father Rhun Korza, a Sanguinist priest who also carries a torch for Erin. Together, the trio must face Legion, a powerful new enemy capable of penetrating the Vatican while assuming the identity of whomever he chooses.
As the barriers between our world and demon underworld thin, the trio must crisscross the globe in search of ancient clues while defending themselves not only from the deadly strigoi but also against enemies seen and unseen. Sacred stones, lost challises and blood come together under a solar eclipse where Erin must sacrifice virtually everything she has before coming face to face with Lucifer himself.
Fast paced action coupled with a complex mystery, assorted good and bad vampires and no end to demons make for a strong series conclusion that reveals bitter betrayal and unexpected redemption. The mix of religion, history and supernatural creatures puts a different yet effective spin on the apocalypse genre. Interesting, well envisioned settings and strong character building with just enough backstory allows this book to stand on its own so those new to the series can enjoy this now and catch up at a later date.

Bought My Copy Last Night & Couldn’t Flip the Pages Fast Enough

Blood Infernal - From cover to cover I was entranced. I sat down well before sunrise with my mug of chai and was swiftly drawn back into the world of the Sanguine and strigoi, I could hardly flip the pages fast enough to keep up with the action. It was hours later when I realized that I’d missed breakfast, was just past lunch time and I’d hardly touched a drop of chai…and the worst of all, realizing that I had all too few pages until I reached the back cover. I wanted to slow down my reading, to relish the end of the series, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do so. In the last hour or so of my reading I can’t count how many times I had tears trickling down my face - sad tears, happy tears, laughing tears…. Even hours after I closed the back cover (& had some pizza) I find my mind wandering back to their stories, not quite ready to give them up. While they did wrap the trilogy up quite masterfully, thankfully James Rollins & Rebecca Cantrell left some kernels of hope that they’re not quite done with the whole overarching Sanguine story. I imagine it won’t be long before I brew some chai and pick up my copy again. This time hopefully reading it more leisurely and stopping to eat occasionally. I highly encourage you to grab a copy of Blood Infernal, sit down with your own mug of chai or coffee and fall into the trance of their writing.
