About the Author
Sharon Gannon is changing the way that people view spirituality, life, themselves, one another, animals, and the environment. Along with David Life, she is the creator of Jivamukti Yoga method, a path to enlightenment through compassion for all beings. Blessed by her teachers Shri Brahmananda Saravati, Swami Nirmalananda, and Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, she is a pioneer in teaching yoga as spiritual activism. Vegetarianism is a core principle of the Jivamukti Yoga method. The Jivamukti method has been recognized as one of the nine forms of hatha yoga practiced in the world today. Yoga Journal magazine has called her an "innovator," and Vanity Fair gives her credit for making yoga "cool" and "hip." Gannon is the author of many books and the producer of numerous yoga-related DVDs and music CDs. She is the recipient of the 2008 Compassionate Living Award. When not traveling and teaching yoga, she resides in a wild forest sanctuary in upstate New York.

Very enlightening

reveals truth through a unique perspective and revelation on common practices made in everyday life . Revealing a connection btwn all living beings despite the disease of disconnection and desensitization looming over today's society. Sharon Gannon certainly explains this in her book, the enslavement of animals and its dire effect on our soul and the planet. But through the eyes of compassion not guilt or egotism. It's Very life changing and eye opening to read this book especially to those who wish to find true freedom through not only postures but decisions made on a daily basis.

A Compassionate View on Oneness

Being a vegetarian who has a daily yoga practice, I have read many books on both subjects. This was the first book that made me take a hard look as to why I had not made the commitment to veganism.
This compassionate viewpoint utilizes a step-by-step yoga method that reminds us via our daily practice that we are all part of the "oneness" of our planet.
I have typically been a little self conscious being around some vegans. Vegans are compassionate at heart and really very kind in purpose, but I would feel guilty about the fact that I have a hard time giving up cheese. This book was written so that I now have a hard time even looking at cheese.
I cried at the very real descriptions of the life of a dairy cow, and even though much of was not new news, Sharon Gannon communicates the message in such a heartfelt manner that it hits home.
This book contains many gifts and it will affect your life. One simple gift was my now gratitude toward PETA... being a peaceful soul, I always steered clear of taking a stance, but these fearless people have a new place in my heart.

Couldn't make it through

I didn't realize when I purchased this book that it was largely an editorial piece designed to persuade you to become vegan. Since I already am vegan, I would love to have heard more about the yoga vedas and the history of how the two disciplines intersected. Instead, I made it only about half way through the book before becoming exhausted with the quick shot of yoga and page after page of diatribe about the vegan diet.
