World's Worst Car Book...

My title may not be entirely true, but this book is very poorly written. The only reason I am writing this review is to prevent anyone else from investing in this poor excuse for a book.
Initially I was intrigued by the concept of this book (albeit, it's been done before). Going in, I knew this book would be nothing more than an entertaining coffee table book at best. However, this book fails to be worthy of any coffee table.
Although far from an expert on European cars, I consider myself a American automobile historian. The "facts" on many of the American models included in the book, are inaccurate, poorly researched and seem to be based on stereotypes and hearsay more than anything else. When an author's research is so poor that he cannot properly identify model year spans and engine displacements, one questions how accurate any of his research can be. His inclusion of some models in the book and excluding others leaves one scratching their head.
Although the author clearly states that the book is his opinion, he doesn't use facts to support his opinion. He simply makes statements and uses no facts for support. In my opinion, this is a clear indicator that the author has little knowledge on the subject matter.
I will commend the book for a nice layout, each car having a description and specifications chart on one page, and a descriptive photographic diagram on the other page. This book has potential to be a entertaining coffee table book, but the publisher needs to find a new author.
In short, this book is fully on inaccuracies, fails to be entertaining, and is a poor investment for anyone.

The World's Most Ignorant & Unimaginative Automotive Author

This book is crap on so many levels...so, I'll just point out a couple that irk me.
There are literally thousands of hilariously awful cars that have been produced in the last century. We're talking stunningly bad - as in they almost seemed purposely designed to be laughed at. Somehow, with all of the many options available, the author (whom clearly knows nothing about cars) chooses cars that are neither funny or could ever be considered as a "world's worst." One remarkable choice is the Lexus SC430, which gains its spot because it "doesn't handle as well as its European rivals" (this certainly isn't a funny reason to add the car to the list nor does it qualify the car as a candidate for world's worst in any way.
Even when he picks cars that are deserving of a spot on the list, his descriptions and facts are not remotely funny. For example, the best he can come up for the hilariously bad AMC Pacer is "reliability was dreadful, it rusted instantly and it was dreadfully slow." Wow, hilarious, Cheetham! You would think he would throw in some funny anecdotal stories or something a bit more inspired.

Coffee Table Car book

There's mountains of books out there for great cars. There's whole libraries devoted to them but what happens to those stinkers that fail miserable, have poor performance, or are just dang ugly. Craig Cheetham has put forth this book listing roughly 150 of what he deems are some of the worst cars in the world. It's easy to go through and makes for an entertaining coffee table book. Each entry gives the basic stats during production and then paraphrases why it is included in this tome. There's a wide spread of vehicles from numerous countries. Craig is very careful to point out, these are only HIS opinions based on ownership, research, and personal views. There are plenty of photos, every entry has at least 2-5 images of the car itself. I'd like to have maybe had one less of the car per page and include a shot of the dashboard features. Unfortunately, many of the problems that make these the worst becomes redundant - rust rot, poor handling, bad performance at speed, and looks.
The book is broken into 5 categories. 1) Badly Built - self explanatory. 2) Design Disasters in which the manufacturers just weren't thinking much on the layouts. 3) Financial Failures in which the car just didn't sell, cost more to make it than it was worth, suffered from lawsuits, or drove a company to bankruptcy. 4) Misplaced Marques in which on company tries to slap a logo and minor change to another manufactures creation. 5) Motoring Misfits which entails oddball vehicles that just don't work properly or became jokes.
Some of these cars went from being famous to infamous due to restructuring or financial problems. There's a huge variety of vehicles including the expected AMC Gremlin and Pacer, the Ford Pinto, Tucker's Torpedo, the Edsel, Pontiac Aztek (horrifically ugly and impractical car), DeLorean, Jeep ripoff India made Mahindra Indian Chief, Reliant Robin (3wheel car), Amphicar, Nash Metropolitan, and even into the Lotus and Lambourghini Espada ranks. Just when you think your prefered brand is safe, one will pop up in this list.
The books inexpensive and was entertaining to go through. Sadly, I can say I have owned four of the cars in this book: Mustang II, Ford Explorer, Subaru SVX, and Subaru XT coupe. Enjoy and find your car.
